Graduate Student Apartments?

My husband is applying for phd programs for next fall, and I’m researching the cost of each school.  I can’t find any info about the cost of grad housing at U of Chicago.  Does anybody have experience with it or heard about how much it is?  Any help would be great, thanks!

Residence?

More first-year questions, yay!
I’m hoping someone in here knows: do I have to contact Carleton’s housing department or whatever to find out who my roomate is or are they supposed to contact me? I got the residence package in the mail and basically all it said was I’m in a traditional double room in [...]

1 or 2 credit fun class?

Hey,
I’m heading into my last semester at Berkeley and I’m loaded up with my honors thesis and 2 really hard classes.  That brings me to 12 credits.  Anyone have suggestions for a fun, creative, 1 or 2 credit class?  I’m shooting for as little outside work as possible (or, at least, very little reading and [...]

Jobs in Australia

I moved to Australia at the beginning of August on a work and holiday visa. I’m not a typical backpacker looking for odd jobs because I’m about to move to Wollongong (1 hr south of Sydney) with my boyfriend. He is Australian and we want to set up a life there. I can only work [...]

Italian Supermarkets

I am going to be studying abroad in Rome this year and I have a question. Since my program uses apartment style housing, there isn’t a meal plan so odds are I’m going to have to cook most of the time. For those of you who have spent some time in Rome (or Italy in [...]

Teaching the Bible in Texas Schools

Remember last year, when the Texas legislature voted to make a class in the Bible as literature mandatory for every public school in the state? Well, this September that bill will come into effect. And so, once again, most of the people commenting on the subject are revealing their deep confusion about literature, [...]

Eastern Canada

Hi guys
I just finished school in the spring but I’m still working with a student budget: unemployed at the moment and spent a bunch of money already on a trip to Europe in June/July. However, I have a bad case of wanderlust, a desire to see more of my own country, a lot of [...]

UC Regents approve raises for execs while slashing everywhere else

Some choice quotes:
"’It’s really a story about cost savings,’ said Barbara French, a UCSF spokeswoman, adding that three people on her campus who won hefty pay increases took on new duties and deserved to be compensated."

"On July 16, the regents also approved requests from other campuses to pay new deans and vice chancellors higher salaries [...]

Working Late on Campus

Anyone else? I’m sitting here and supposed to be writing an essay due tomorrow. But this is my break time (I have tendinitis in both wrists, my fingers are now numb again). Taking classes during the summertime is BRUTAL – I have a final exam in a week. Blech.
Anyone who is on campus late – [...]

Orientation kit stuffing / Summer school marks

Just curious, does anyone know anything about the final schedule for volunteering to stuff UTSU orientation kits? Or do we just come for all the times we signed up for? I couldn’t make it to the BBQ yesterday, so I’m not sure if anything important was said there.
Edit: Does anyone also know when the marks for Y summer courses will [...]
